My Photo Gallery
Welcome to my photo gallery. This is where I've gathered a little collection of pictures I've taken while travelling. Instead of making a typical personal homepage gallery, with pictures of myself in front of tourist clichés, I've tried to use pictures that may actually be interesting for people passing by my site.
All the pictures in this gallery are in low resolution (none above 640x480). If you want a picture in higher resolution for any purpose, just write me an e-mail, tell me why you need them, and I usually won't have a problem with that.
Kenya
| Lamu. A 16th century island town on the Kenya Coast. Lamu is a well-preserved Swahili town and UNESCO World Heritage Site. | |
| Malindi. This legendary town on the Kenyan Coast was preferred fishing resort for Ernest Hemingway. It's far smaller than Mombasa, and far less commercialised. | |
| Mombasa. Once the capital of East Africa under the colonial rule, this city is today a favorite tourism destination for wealthy Kenyans as well as for tourists from all over the world. | |
| Nairobi. The green city under the sun, the capital of Kenya as well as the business hub of Eastern and Central Africa. This city offers a unique experience of African metropolitan life! Don't forget to read my City Guide to Nairobi as well! | |
| Kenya Mainland. Pictures from various places and situations in Kenya, including Nairobi, Kisumu, Keyio South, Eldama Ravine. | |
| Safari pictures from Kenya. When living in Kenya, going for a few safaris is sort of mandatory. This collection of pictures was taken on a safari trip in 2004. | |
Zanzibar |
|
| Stone Town, Zanzibar. The capital of Zanzibar was a regional centre of power as well as a hub for slave trade in the pre-colonial days. Today it is more than anything a centre of modern Swahili culture, with well-preserved architecture and and a tranquil but business-minded atmosphere. | |
| Jambiani, Zanzibar. While Nungwi is the usual destination for tourists visiting Zanzibar (yes, I've been to Nungwi too!), any of the other villages on the island will offer a much more direct insight into the authentic Zanzibari culture. In addition to that, all other places will give you a much better price/comfort ratio than Nungwi. | |
Ethiopia |
|
Ethiopia. The land of former the Axumite Empire, the Queen of Sheeba, and Emperor Haile Selassie (aka Ras Tafari), Ethiopia is the only African country that ever won a war against an invading European state (Battle of Adwa, 1896). It is also the only African country that was never colonized. Ethiopia has an extremely rich culture and history yet to be discovered by mainstream tourists. The country is bustling with relics, monasteries, old churches and monuments from its fascinating past. Still today , Ethiopia has maintained a very disctinct culture (or set of cultures) that stands completely apart from any other African country. Colorful traditional clothing, unique musical traditions, and an extremely characteristic and tasty cuisine are among the things that make visits to Ethiopia leave a very strong impression in the traveller's memory. |

Egypt |
|
| Egypt. In December 2004, Beatrice and I were supposed to go visit my parents in Norway. However, as they wanted to escape from the cold Norwegian winter climate, we agreed that all 4 of us would meet halfway, in Egypt. | |
South Africa |
|
| Cape Town . Pictures taken during a business trip to Cape Town in 2005. | |
