Sri Lanka – a journey through the Resplendent Island

Sri Lanka means the Resplendent Island, a fitting name for this Paradise on Earth. This vibrant cultural melting pot in the Indian Ocean has it all, with its rich cultural history, stunning sceneries, lush nature and some of the friendliest people you will ever meet! Don’t forget a uniquely spicy local cuisine!

Our action-packed 11-day schedule took us through Sigiriya and Dambulla, Kandy, Galle and finally Colombo, also passing through Koggala and Mirissa. The sites included splendid temples and steep climbs, like the Sigiriya Rock, with its Machu Picchu-like 5th century fortress. We also visited the Dambulla Cave Temple, and the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy.

By the time we were flying back to Nairobi, the world was already watching nervously, as the coronavirus was spreading fast. Only days after we returned home from Sri Lanka, the lockdowns started, and global air travel ceased for the next few months. We made it out just on time!
